Go pee first
So this is the only baby advice I remember and the only unsolicited advice I give expecting and new parents .... GO PEE FIRST. .
This might seem fairly straight forward, you don’t know just how long that newborn baby will need you, but it goes beyond that. .
It creates an intentional pause! So many times this pause gave my kids enough time to sooth themselves and go back to sleep. Whereas previously I had been too quick to try to help, this promptness stifled my baby’s opportunity to learn to sooth himself. And let me tell you, soothing himself was a win for everyone!
.
Now that my kids aren’t newborns, and I have relationships with people other than my kids too (even though they think that’s inconvenient) I have found this practice to be handy. .
When my mom and I push each other’s buttons and I’m running out of patience. I buy myself a little time and go to the bathroom. .
When I’m arguing with my husband and I’m super irritable this is super handle!! (Sometimes I tell him it’s a big poop to buy more time 😂🤷🏼♀️)
.
Okay I’m off to bed but I must #gopeefirst
