That's the answer to a different question
My husband had a professor that wouldn’t tell people they were wrong, he’d simply say ‘that’s the answer to a different question’. 🤣
I started using this phrase as sarcasm, when I thought someone was a total tool. What I realized was that I was wanting to use it far too often, and not just with tools. I found that I needed to include ‘I’m not sure what you heard, because ......” So a few takeaways:
1. You might not be wrong, you just maybe weren’t listening to the question.
2. Someone else might not be wrong, they likely weren’t listening.
3. Always check what you think you heard. I like ‘what I heard was ..... is that what you meant?’
And
4. You are wrong. #dunningkrueger
5. .... you tell me???? .
